this song is exceptional. even more so with the addition of daughter.
it is a small wonder that these things exist, this sweet merging of musicians. (how i long to understand just how music is made.) but there is something greater in the fact that we can watch a concert happen across the world, at any time we like... a global sharing that is above and separate from the seemingly endless war & strife. it's a victory worth holding on to.
there is not a line in this song that is not weighted by sorrow. the kind you learn to live with and swallow every morning with your cup of coffee. there is a weariness in his voice. tired out by the truth, perhaps. sometimes honesty is a frail sound that lingers and grows. i think you will like it, this sad truth. (it's something like swimming at night, the endless deep.)
it's not new. i didn't just discover it. but ye gods and little fishies, i will never get over this song. and yes, the video clinched my eternal love for fiona apple. 'cause i loved her before, but for this, i would declare it with a button or a bumper sticker or a string of zach galifianakis style dance moves. music will move you. perhaps not gracefully, or with any shred of dignity, but it will move you.
