art and science like peanut butter and jelly

May 6, 2009

a little more artist love. this is the work of brendan monroe. it's largely based in biology (which as a closet science geek, i completely adore). the natural shapes and connections seem to evoke the idea of a living and breathing organism. as if we are seeing tons of close-up shots of this organism, but never the entire creature itself.

painting, sculpture, even his work in vinyl - it all creates a very cohesive and detailed point of view. i, for one, love it.

i would love to see this last wooden figure propped up on the fireplace mantel, quietly presiding over the living room. (squeezing my eyes shut real tight now, trying to make this dream a reality!)
