( chemex )

February 9, 2010

i've always been intrigued by these chemex coffee makers. simplicity is often best, but can coffee really be as simple as tea? and of course, it's a gorgeous pot. wood, leather, glass. and nothing unnecessary.

i've been keeping an eye out, hoping to stumble across one in my vintage forays. so far, no luck. but i did discover you can buy them new! and in different sizes too. or even with a handle (which then eliminates the wood cuff. and unfortunately, the charm.)

still, i think i prefer the original. someday i will have that lucky day...

{image from habit, where someone has the genius to make dirty dishes feel downright homey. sigh.}

3 notes:

  1. I have a friend who has one of these and he loves it. He's a coffee snob, and has it in his office at work...

  2. i'm so, so curious! i know the second i break down and buy one, i'll find one at the flea market! (patience, not my strong suit.)

  3. i found one at an estate sale. an original, complete with wood cuff, quilted coffee cozy, and burner (incase you need to keep it hot for awhile)

    i prompty sold it. it broke in transit. bad karma from the point of sale....shoulda, woulda, coulda
